early morning

I absolutely hate when the enemy gets the best of me. Let me tell you a little story to show what I mean. Since I've been pregnant I wake up around 8:30 - 9:00, if you ask my family, growing up I never had a problem sleeping in. So you'll understand why waking up at 5:30 this morning was a big deal. In fact, a very big deal.

Zach and his running buddies go out for longer runs, especially when one or more of them is training for a half or full marathon. This morning was no exception. They ran a 10 miler this morning. That's a good distance but really not that big of a deal for them. I would be dead at a half mile, but that's just me!

After a bad dream last night, I wake up at 5:30, make my usual jog to the little girls room and try to settle back into my bed for a little more shut-eye. Didn't happen. If I have an unsettling fear or anxiety about Zach out running in the dark, where cars and dogs don't care, I can usually pray for a little bit and then relax and go back to sleep. It didn't happen at all this morning. The enemy even tried to make my mind run wild in the land of "if-onlys." I was actually freaking out to the point I had to make my self calm down or I knew my blood pressure wouldn't be good for the baby.

Why am I telling you this? Because throughout my little spell this morning it seemed that several verses about worry spilled into my mind and only that could truly calm me down. I also realized what Matthew 6:27 meant this morning. I want to share these verses about fear, worry and anxiety with you. It's so easy to get caught up in fear and not find freedom in the peace the Lord offers. Do you ever worry like this?

1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear."

1 Peter 5:7 "Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you."

Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

I like your verses. God is the best body-guard. But if it makes you feel any better .... I'm there too. I take good care of Z. :)
